The stewards are the life-blood of the running of the Festival. If you could spare just a few hours one day, you could join this amazing team!
The tasks are varied! As people arrive at the venue (Christ Church), they will be welcomed by thr door stewards who will check the performers in and sell tickets to their supporters. Most payments are made by card nowadays: there is very little handling of cash.
In the hall, one steward takes charge of the platform. They will announce the classes and help the (sometimes very nervous) performers become comfortable for their performance.
Another steward will sit alongside the Adjudicator. Their task is to ensure that she or he has all the paperwork that they need. Beside these is the Certificate Steward who will record the result of each class and make sure that the right certificates are handed out.
Many classes have trophies. The appropriate ones for the session are displayed (labelled!) and the Trophy Steward will make sure that, not only are they handed out but that they are also signed for!
There’s always a short break during each session. Someone to make and distribute teas, coffees and biscuits are always a welcome sight!
Many stewards love coming and joining in this great event – and they come back, year after year! Could you come and join them? Contact us here.
